Hi all, I’ve just been busy with life and the stuff that is required by the government.
At home I’ve been digitizing a lot of tapes, which takes a while to do. First because its 1 to 1, so a 1h tape takes 1h to record, and then after that I have to cut the bits out and check the audio levels, which adds another hour or so on top. Pretty much any tape I do takes about double the time it actually is. I’ve been putting in tapes that I’ve found at thrift stores and for free on various markets. Currently I have 90ish tapes that I still need to put in, and hopefully they’re good. I’m putting them in so I can see them on any of my devices through Jellyfin. But then because I’ve had so many tapes I’ve run out of storage space, so even trying to convert the tapes afterwards to even smaller file sizes, like h.264 with AAC audio at 1500 bit rate. When you think about it from streaming and that stuff, then its not a high bit rate, but then you also have to remember that its not 720p or higher. I do it at 768 x 576 resolution, which is what my capture card is recording at.
Some of these tapes are very long, like these Christmas calendars are 6+ hours. So they take a very long time to do.
